I won't call this utter tripe, but I'm tempted to. Don't get me wrong: I'm all for experimentation and treading new ground and blazing new trails, but 'Souvenirs d'un Autre Monde' just sounds silly to me. It comes across as tremendously effete. Whether or not this record is black metal - an issue raised in its regard plenty of times, and furthermore likely the most common criticism leveled against it - isn't really a point whose argument is terribly important, but whether or not the music is good *is*, and the directionless, self-referential nature of this music renders it simply bad to my ears.
