1 Review for 'Bilskirnir - Der Wolkenwanderer''Der Wolkenwanderer'
A forgotten GEM!
This EP was a promo for the 2013 full-length, and contains some rehearsals from the Wotan Redivivus sessions.
The first two tracks were later recorded with better production for the Wotan Redivivus album, but both songs sound better on this EP!
The production is classic early 2000s Bilskirnir. Not too raw, not too clean. The riffs are atmospheric without being too monotonous, the drumming is sharp and crisp.
Only the first track includes vocals performed by Widar himself, and they are glorious as always, arguably better than the final recorded version of the album.
The second track is an early version of the song, which later appeared on the album as an instrumental interlude (which was nice) but this one is far, far better. Incredible lush guitar tones, with a very cold feeling. It almost reminds you of really old school stuff like Hellhammer!
The final track is the most interesting song of the album though. A cover version of Absurd's "Mourning Soul", which is much better than the original, mostly because of its vocal performance! A guy cited as "P.M." does the vocals, and what a performance!
All in all, FANTASTIC for an EP. A must have.
