Departure Chandelier - Antichrist Rise to Power review by Warblackmetal666

A good Black Metal album from a pretty good band from my country, but this is not necessarily an album that I will listen to every day, honestly, because the bad points of this one are big and drop the bar of quality. You will see, I'm really ambivalent towards this album. In this review, I will not separate good and bad points from each other like I do normally, because it will be weird to write.

Firstly, I'm not a big fan of the voice of the vocalist because of the technique he uses, but his voice is good for this technique, so the vocals are not too bad, but not too good either, they are adequate. Secondly, the riffs are sometimes really good, and sometimes really bad in a short moment. Sometimes it's within the same riff, like in ''Catacombs Beneath the Castle of the Marquis''. The start of the riff is very bad but the end is really good, so it's weird. Sometimes they are totally good, like in the song ''Life Escaping through the Candle's Smoke''.

Another good point is the use of an instrument that is probably a synthesizer, but i'm not sure (I'm really bad with this kind of instrument). ''Life Escaping through the Candle's Smoke'' is again a good example. The drums, are not really entertaining. They are basic, and sometimes I feel they are mixed badly, as if they were offset from the rest of the music, and it doesn't sound good to the ear.

So it's weird, I'm really ambivalent about this album. Sometimes I'm like, this is not all that, and other times I'm like this is really good. One sure thing is that they are able to do some short but extremely good moments, and every time I hear the song ''Re-establish the Black Rule of France'' my opinion about the rest of the album is changing, and that's why it's extremely tough to have a stable opinion of this album.

To finish this review, I will say, go listen to this album and forge your own opinion. It's tough to give a score, but I will put 89 because of the really really good ending. The start is not that good but the end, OK, here's the hidden talent of these guys. So seriously, go listen to this album, it's worth it. Enjoy!
