Often disregarded as mediocre and overshadowed by De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas, Chimera is a fine album with enough pure black metal to stop a train.

My favorite Mayhem album

Technically speaking, this is mayhem at their finest. Unfortunately, with that much musical ability on show, the tracks lack any real individuality. I found myself having to revert constantly to the track listing to check which song was which. If you are a musician with a love of all things technical, you may well enjoy it. But it's not for me.

Definitely not the best Mayhem album, or even in the Top 3 for me, but this is still an excellent piece of work. It's a little more streamlined than 'Grand Declaration of War' and I tend to put this on when I want that modern sound without the experimentation. This is a very good album for sure.

Wolf's Lair Abyss was so much better. Atleast it's better than most of the trainwreck this 'cover band' would put out after this

Very much overrated but still its the best thing that came after "wolfs liar abyss"

One of the more aggressive Mayhem albums.
Fav track: My Death

This was the last album to feature Maniac on vocals
Before he jumped ship, due to alcohol enduced stage fright.

Attila would join the ranks once more after this album,
Three years later.
