Cascadian nature worshipers United States Wolves in the Throne Room have just announced via their Facebook page that they will be releasing a brand new full-length on the 20th of August. The new album, which is titled "Primordial Arcana", will be released through Relapse Records in North America, and through Century Media Records elsewhere in the world.

Together with the announcement, the band also made available a brand new music video for the album's opening track, "Mountain Magick":

The band commented briefly on the production of the video:

The Video for "Mountain Magick" was shot in the northern reaches of the Olympic Mountains and the ancient forests that shroud the foothills. We wrote the story, created the costumes, shot the footage and did the editing ourselves, so it is a true product of our hearts and souls. Creating our own videos has been a long standing dream, and now it’s very exciting to bring these Visions into the Cinematic Realm.

Wolves in the Throne Room were formed in 2002 in Olympia, Washington state by brothers Aaron and Nathan Weaver, and soon became one of the pioneers of the Cascadian region's vibrant Atmospheric / Pagan Black Metal scene. "Primordial Arcana" will mark their sixth full-length album, and first release of new material of any kind in almost four years. The complete tracklist for the new album is as follows:

  1. Mountain Magick
  2. Spirit of Lightning
  3. Through Eternal Fields
  4. Primal Chasm (Gift of Fire)
  5. Underworld Aurora
  6. Masters of Rain and Storm
  7. Eostre
  8. Skyclad Passage

The band also elaborated briefly on the production process:

"Primordial Arcana" is the band’s first completely self-contained work: In addition to composition and performance, brothers Aaron and Nathan Weaver alongside guitarist Kody Keyworth handled all aspects of recording, producing and mixing at their own Owl Lodge Studios in the woods of Washington state. Artwork by Amjad Faur and Wolves in the Throne Room.

The exquisite cover art for the new album, which in my opinion is a significant step up from that of their previous release, was designed by U.S. artist Amjad Faur:

Pre-orders for "Primordial Arcana" will soon be underway, and in addition to the usual digital and CD formats there is a staggering variety of vinyl LP and gatefold options to choose from, all of which you can check out on the band's most recent Facebook post here.
